“Area Boys”: A means to survive in Lagos

“Area boys” are typically young, unemployed men (few "area boys" are female) who hang out on the streets, extorting money from bus drivers, and other unfortunates who happen to cross their path. They are, understandably, seen as delinquents and menaces to Lagos’ society.

As Americans celebrate the election of their first black president, Kenyans are celebrating the same victory as one of their own.

Thursday, 6th Nov., has been officially declared a public holiday, so we took to the streets to find out what exactly it is this victory symbolizes. What do people expect to happen now? (And what do you think it is reasonable to expect Obama to do for Africa? We'd like to hear your thoughts, so add your comments to this piece.)
